5 Technology Priorities for 2018

January 08th, 2018

Technology moves fast, and trying to keep up with the "next best thing" is enough to make your head spin. But there is a much better alternative to chasing the trends, and that is to focus on specific technology priorities that will help you to best protect your data and also maximize those innovations that most closely align with YOUR specific business goals (based on your starting point).

With that in mind, here is our list of 5 Technology Priorities for 2018.  (Get the PDF version of this infographic here.)

Start Where You Are, Use What You Have

Tennis great Arthur Ashe is famously quoted for saying "Start where you are.  Use what you have. Do what you can."

While you wouldn't necessarily attribute this wisdom to your business IT, it absolutely applies with the priorities outlined below.

What does that mean specifically?

Corsica Tech Managed IT Services.pngWell if you migrated to the cloud in 2017 and rolled out Office 365 for example, then chances are you are pretty comfortable with the basic functionality of the product.

So the next focus should be on leveraging the expanded services that are available.  You want to make sure you're really getting the most out of the productivity and collaboration tools that you already own (i.e. use what you have).

The same holds true of enabling better account protections.  Most cloud-based applications offer some type of multi-factor authentication, and there's no better time than now to start using that feature wherever possible.

If you have yet to make the jump to the cloud, and you're dealing with aging on-premise hardware that needs to be replaced or software that needs to be upgraded, then "where you are" is prime for a cloud migration.

And while cybersecurity isn't a new priority, it remains a critically important one.  We said it last year and we're repeating it in 2018...make sure every single member of your team is cyber-aware.  You can (and should) have every other network security component implemented, but if your end-users don't know how to spot a phishing email, your data is still very much at risk.

Make 2018 all about finding, implementing and then taking full advantage of the technologies that are going to best support your unique business goals.  In order words...start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can to make today's technology work for you.
